Hello,

Welcome to NEMOS LAB

ABOUT US

Our group is in the Department of Computer Science at Colorado School of Mines.

Much of our work focuses on game theoretic and optimization approaches to networking, IoT, mobile computing and sensing, security and privacy.

We are looking for self-motivated and hardworking students who are interested in tackling algorithmic, optimization, and economic challenges across different areas, including networking, crowdsourcing, smart grid, and security and privacy.

OUR PROJECTS

Description

In auction-based incentives for crowdsensing, a Sybil attacker could benefit by submitting multiple bids under multiple fictitious identities (Sybils). In this project, we designed both online and offline Sybil-proof incentive mechanisms for crowdsensing.

Description

Want to unlock and control your phone when your hands are wet or dirty? In this project, we design UltraUnlock, which provides a silent, quick, and smooth user experience for unlocking and controlling without touching the smartphone. UltraUnlock exploits ultrasound from your smartphone to detect user’s unique hand movements for smartphone authentication and control.

MaskCall protects users’ speech privacy when they are making phone calls. MaskCall will send noise signals with user’s voice, so that people nearby cannot hear the user’s conversation. More importantly, it will not affect the user’s experience, and the person on the other end of the call can hear the user clearly.

Voice-controlled assistants are becoming pervasive these days. However, what if an adversary control them without your permission? We design VCGuard, which generates special signals when your voice is replayed. In this way, only voices from human beings would be accepted.

Inspired by the experience of people asking for directions indoors in daily life, we proposed iIN, an instruction-based indoor navigation system. Taking into consideration both the distance and landmarks, iIN selects a route and generates instructions on how to navigate to the destination.

Description

Smartphone theft is a non-negligible problem. More than 3 million smartphones were stolen in the U.S.A. in 2013. Therefore, there is an urgent need for an anti-theft solution for smartphones. In this project, we plan to exploit behavioral biometrics to alert the user when a thief steals the phone from a user.
